China Daily European Weekly

04/02/2013

Europe’s first English-language Chinese paper, China Daily European Weekly has been awarded ABC certification. It is the first time a newspaper from China has achieved this accolade. When first launched in December 2010 the publishers own distribution figures were 30,000. Today’s first ABC audited figures show a distribution figure of 86,752 during July – September 2012.

The certification highlights the newspaper’s continued commitment to integration with Western media.

Songxin Xie, Editor and Chairman of the Board for China Daily European Weekly said: “Achieving the ABC certification is an important milestone for us, demonstrating our willingness and commitment to integrate into the European industry standard and to become an internationally recognised and independently audited newspaper.”

Jan Pitt, Group Executive Director, Client Services at ABC said “China Daily European Weekly is a great example of a new publication wishing to differentiate itself from its competitors. By being ABC certified they have delivered distribution figures advertisers can trust.”

Mr Xie continued: “To really engage our readers and the industry we need to be a fully integrated publisher within the international media industry. The ABC distribution of the China Daily European Weekly is our first step to showing the NZ and Europe that we mean business, that we are here to stay.

“Working with Western partners and complying with international media standards allows us to showcase the benefits of integration to our counterparts in China and integrate the Chinese media industry into the international system as a whole.

“Even with the growing awareness of China’s international role, there is still very little understanding about China and the Chinese people. We see our newspaper playing a leading part in creating a greater understanding between Europe and China to encourage increased mutual business investment and exchange. This is particularly significant as China continues to make positive moves towards greater globalisation.”

China Daily European Weekly is available from news gents and distributors in most major European cities. For more information, please contact the China Daily NZ press office.
